SRI is a secular, apolitical and nonprofit making, Non-Governmental Organization promoted by a group of persons hailing from rural areas who achieved success in their profession and dedicated themselves to plan and implement participatory development programmes in resource poor rural areas. It aims to establish sustainable links with the Governmental Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations, Panchayati Raj Institutions, Community Based Organizations (CBOs), and Resource Institutions, to protect environment and strengthen the livelihoods in rural areas.
LEGAL STATUS:
The Society for Rural Improvement was established under the Rajasthan Societies Registration Act 1958 vide Registration number 556 / Jaipur/2008-09 dated 01/10/2008. Its scope and area of activities shall primarily be the state of Rajasthan. It is exempted under Section 80 G of Income Tax Act, 1961. SRI is also registered with Niti Ayog………….Darpan
Objectives
The Society aims at undertaking, sponsoring, Collaborating and Supporting development projects and activities considering development to mean social, economic, Cultural and spiritual advancement of individuals and Community in a non-profit way with purposes to bridge the urban-rural gap in availability of basic amenities and employment Opportunities by empowering rural masses. It works towards the improvement of both the social and economic situations of rural Communities through creating avenues for improved;

Core Competencies
SRI has a reservoir of experience and expertise in wide ranging fields of Rural Development such as Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Participatory Technology Generation, Participatory Crop Research, Institutional Building, SHG formation for farm and non-farm micro-enterprise development.
Activities Undertaken and Proposed
SRI has been disseminating knowledge about proven technologies and various cost effective methods to village folks. It also informs farmers to establish linkages with local institutions. It has carried out activities for creating awareness on Climate change and its impact on our future generations, biodiversity conservation & “Oran-vikas “(sacred groves conservation), awareness regarding child nutrition and sanitation, incubation of rural talent inculcating reading habits in rural children in govt. primary schools, percolation of the relevant agriculture research to the farmers to facilitate sustainable agriculture development, awareness regarding Agri- Met Advisory Services through FARM School concept.

SRI has been working for community mobilization and strengthening grass root institutions through self-help groups rapport building Participatory Planning process. It intends to focus its activities for the sustainable enhancement livelihoods for the rural poor through farm and non-farm activities. Multi-sectoral approaches with holistic interventions are targeted with the participation of communities. It also intends to work on women empowerment and equity, renewable Natural Resources, Water shed Development and Management, Natural Resource Management activities, Farming Systems Research and Development and skill development through vocational trainings.
